Architectural Inspiration in Australia

As briefly mentioned in my previous Blog post, I have been in Australia for the past 6 months - in the Gold Coast to be more precise.

Even if you have never visited the Gold Coast or Australia in general you can probably imagine the architecture is quite different to those in the UK.

With the conquering by the British Empire in the late 18th century and the slow development of infrastructure, it makes sense that all cities and their buildings are much more modern than Britain's whimsy farm cottages made of natural stones and wood, or lived-in flats in quirky town centres.

Of course, the climate has a huge impact as well. It provides exotic greenery and dictates architecture having to provide a cool interior - most houses are in a light colour to not attract the sun and often windows are shaded by slabs. Of course, all windows have mosquito screens to avoid unwanted intruders inside your home.

On the inside, you don't want to miss a ceiling fan and even better an air conditioning to keep you cool on those extra hot summer days.

The coastal location inspires overall light colours and natural fabrics, sand coloured or turquoise accents wanting to surround you with the outdoors at all times.

I don't know about you but especially the greenery with palm trees, cacti, and many plants I've never seen makes it feel like a holiday every day. What do you think?

Thanks for reading!
