Cologne City

Better late than never - I have written down some great things to do and see in Cologne.

Some of them are very obvious as they are so popular and others might be more surprising.

This is a combined collection of two trips we've done, to show you the most variety possible.

A great way to start a day off sightseeing in Cologne is the Triangle-Tower (also called LVR Turm) in Köln-Deutz.

Adults pay 5 € to go all the way to the 29th floor, where a 360-degree-view is waiting for you.

This is especially beautiful on a clear and sunny day.

After you have a good look around I would suggest to get the elevator back down and take a stroll over the bridge (Schlösserbrücke) you can see in the photo above.

The bridge is decorated with millions of love lockets and leads to the most famous sight in Cologne, the Kölner Dom.

Just seeing the Cathedral from the distance makes me feel so at home, but especially when standing in front of it you can truly feel its greatness.

At night the Dom is lit up and brightens up the city, which resembles the pride people from Cologne have for their home.

You can have a look inside for free and can even climb up all the way to the top (for an extra charge). From there you also have an amazing view over Cologne and even the cities and towns around it.

Afterwards you could head towards the Old Town of Cologne. Probably my favourite part in the city.

It is filled with quirky and colourful houses, which are home to the most authentic Kneipen (pubs) and Kölsch Breweries.

It's a great area for sunshine, ice creameries and Restaurants at day and Kneipen at night, I would say. On my visit it was the place to catch up with my best friend.

We had enough time to then walk to Rheinauhafen (the old harbour of Cologne). This has been converted to a modern business and living area for very successful people.

People like the football player and Cologne-icon Lukas Podolski live here.

Now I mentioned Lukas Podolski, you do not want to miss out on his own Doner Kebab shop "Mangal Döner" in the South-City.

We then got very hungry and walked even further into South-city (Südstadt), to try out a modern-fusion Sushi Restaurant called Umibar.

To us the drinks and Vegetable Gyozas really stood out and we highly recommend checking it out.

This was the finish of our busy day in Cologne. The best transport is usually the tram or a train, depending on where you stay. But when you want to see as much as possible, walking and wandering around is as always the best way.

Another top tip is Keupstraße in Köln-Mülheim, which is famous for its delicious turkish food. You'll find a street filled with turkish Restaurants and shops. We went to my friend's favourite Restaurant called "DoyDoy", where you are welcomed with homemade breads and dips and you get to choose from a large menu. The meal always finished with the traditional Chai tea. This meal was probably the highlight of the trip for me.

After you indulged on the delicious food, you could choose from one of the many Baklava shops and get a syrupy dessert to finish the night.

We took it home to our friends house and enjoyed it with more Chai tea, while playing card games.

Last but not least I have a great tip for everyone who loves shopping and wants to see another City nearby, Düsseldorf.

Although Düsseldorf and Cologne are not known for being friends for generations, I would still recommend a visit. Their High Street is popular for its high fashion brands and a luxury feel.

Especially beautiful on a sunny day, which could be a reason to also visit the cute old-town of Düsseldorf or sit by the Rhine.

There is so many more things to do and see in Cologne, which I didn't mention but maybe that could be an opportunity for future visits and posts.

I'd also love to hear your input on my Instagram Account!
