My Favourite Autumn Interior Trends 2021

A Rich Colour Palette & Dark Wood Features

Dark wooden furniture still reminds me of my great-grandparents house. They loved their high-quality, sometimes bespoke, craftsmanship. Those pieces really were everlasting.

And I don't mean to say that I find those outdated, but the opposite. They make me feel homely and warm inside, remind me of my blessed childhood and my loving great-grandparents.

No wonder I picked this one as one of my favourite Interior Trends of 2021.

Furthermore, everyone who knows me well can tell you that I am currently obsessed with rich greens and teals. Those work very nicely with dark wooden features, but why not also put different shades of green together?

Connect in the Kitchen

I love cooking and find it really relaxing. The change of the seasons gives me the opportunity to really explore new recipes and experiment with new flavours (I'm instantly thinking of hearty and rich). We want rich colours in our food as much as we want them for our interior.

Think modern meets rustic. New cooking techniques meet rustic flavours and modern suppliances meet rustic wooden kitchen cabinets.

Creating a space for family and friends to spend time together and enjoy home-cooked food and maybe some drinks.

There is definitely something rewarding in feeding the people you love.

A Spa Bathroom

It is all about taking care for your body and mind.

The bathroom is the new relaxation oasis in every new home. It's purpose is for you to not be disturbed during your self-care routine.

Whether it's a loosening hot shower after rushing home from work or taking an easing bath after a cosy Sunday on the sofa, it is time spent well.

I've always been a person to shower at night, rather than the morning. It seems to mentally prepare me for the evening and the following night. I like to use the opportunity in the shower to metaphorically rinse off all stress of the day and think of all the things I've been grateful for.

A Reading Corner

Autumn always brings me back into the mood for reading. I love snuggling under a blanket with my favourite cup of tea (usually lemon and ginger) and my new book in reach.

I'd love to incorporate a place for reading in my own home one day. Full of cushions and at least two blankets, surrounded by my favourite books and in front of a fire place if I get really lucky.

Bespoke Furnishings and Vintage Decor

I personally love mixing old and new.

By ordering a bespoke furniture piece you can support local businesses and get a piece that perfectly fits it's purpose. It will most likely last you a life time, if you're choosing high quality materials.

Buying vintage or second hand will give you the opportunity to find unique pieces and they could possibly be a bargain.

You might get lucky and find an older piece which is perfect for up-cycling!

Both, buying bespoke or vintage, can also offer you the possibility to buy sustainably and environmentally friendly, which we should always keep in mind.

Warm, Earthy Neutrals

An inviting and relaxing atmosphere can be easily created with warm, earthy colours.

Combine different shades of nudes and greys, brown and greens and feel free to incorporate a slight pop of colour to make the space feel more alive.

Those colours can be very soothing and that is exactly what I need at home.

Don't forget to add some plants into your design to perfect the look, they will really stand out.

Posters and Sculptures

This Autumn decoration is all about shapes.

Mixing shapes and the above mentioned trend colours will give you the perfect minimalistic look.

There is very affordable posters you can find online or in some stores. They can suit whatever interior style you are going for and are also easily changed over, if you get bored of them.

And why not choose a timeless Sculpture, that makes your interior unique to any other?

Or even better: mix both of them!

Cosy Fabrics and Natural Textures

Especially Jute and Rattan are this year's trend material.

They bring warmth and texture into any interior.

To me they're also about incorporating nature into the space (which is aligned with the last trend on this page 'Bringing the Outdoors inside').

Mixing all kinds of textures will bring depth into the room, which also feels super cosy.

Bringing the Outdoors in

Especially since Covid everyone knows what it feels like to be locked indoors. I personally value the nature and outdoors more, since knowing what it's like to not be able to experience it whenever I want to. And from speaking to my friends and family, I know I'm not alone.

For those reasons it was very obvious that bringing the indoors inside and surrounding you with nature as much as possible will become a major trend this year.

Use plants, flowers or even natural textiles (like mentioned above). Just one of them or as much as you can fit into your space, there really is no rules or limits.
